North York Academy’s Team Canada watch party at Santa Chiara Parkette for the Copa America semi-finals was a major success! Canada took on the reigning World Cup champions, Argentina, and NYA brought the community of St. Clair West together to support Canada.

The turnout was incredible, with Canadian spirit that could be felt through everyone’s enthusiasm! Two community leaders, Ward 9-Davenport Councillor Alejandra Bravo and Toronto Catholic District School Board Trustee Frank D’Amico joined us to support the Reds on this historic day for Canadian sports.

This year’s Copa America was Team Canada’s first. Needless to say, they blew through everybody’s expectations by making it to the semi-finals. Canada impressed everybody with their performance, however in the end, Argentina ended up victorious with the final score being Argentina 2-0 Canada.

Les Rouges, the entire country is eternally proud of your achievement and we will continue to support you!

“Holding our own with Argentina, World Champions, we are never going back, we have an amazing amount of talent in this country, our diversity, the number of people that are into this game, this beautiful game, we’re going to build it and, come the next World Cup, I think we are going to be in an amazing position.”

Thank you Councillor Bravo for your continuous support to the community!

“This is an amazing moment in the history of Canada, all these new soccer programs that are popping up all over Canada are allowing some of our true Canadians to play for our Canadian national team.”

Trustee D’Amico, we are immensely thankful for your support in making this event such a success!

Finally, thank you to everyone that came for making this event possible, we are incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to see how this event has brought our community closer together.
